Maharashtrian Ghavan Recipe - Rice Flour Crepes

Ghavan is a traditional breakfast recipe from Konkan region of Maharashtra. Traditionally, these are made out of brown rice flour, a pinch of salt, jeera and water to form this batter and immediately these are cooked out like dosas. But I have made it with regular rice flour as I didn’t find brown rice flour.

Ingredients

  • 1 cup Rice
  • soaked for 4 to 5 hours
  • Oil
  • for drizzling
  • as required
  • Salt
  • to taste

Instructions

Step 1

To begin making the Maharashtrian Ghavan Recipe, soak the rice in water overnight or 5 to 6 hours

Step 2

Once soaked well

Step 3

Grind into a smooth thick batter adding little water at a time

Step 4

 Transfer the ground Ghavan batter into a bowl and add the salt and some more water to  adjust the consistency of the Ghavan to ensure it is not very thick nor very thin

Step 5

Cover the batter and keep it aside for 10 to 15 minutes

Step 6

Heat a non-stick tawa and spread a little oil on it

Step 7

Stir the batter and pour the batter from the edge of the pan moving towards the center

Step 8

Spread evenly

Step 9

Reduce the heat

Step 10

 Drizzle little oil all around and cook it until light brown

Step 11

Now flip it and cook it on other side too

Step 12

 Transfer Ghavan on a serving plate and serve immediately

Step 13

Serve Maharashtrian Ghavan Recipe - Rice Flour Crepes with Tomato Garlic Chutney ot  Capsicum Chutney or any other chutney of your choice along with a cup of Masala Chai
