Green Moong Dal Khichdi Recipe
The Moong dal khichdi is a very traditional Indian comfort food that can be had at any time of the year. The combination of carbohydrates and protein along with spices makes this Khichdi light on the stomach. All you need to do is to serve it with a vegetable like Batata Nu Shaak (Potatoes in Gravy) or even a Kadhi Pakora making your weeknight dinners simple and healthy.
Ingredients

1 cup Rice

1/2 cup Green Moong Dal (Split)

1 Green Chilli

1 inch Ginger

1/2 teaspoon Turmeric powder (Haldi)

1/4 teaspoon Asafoetida (hing)

1/2 teaspoon Whole Black Peppercorns

1 inch Cinnamon Stick (Dalchini)

Instructions
Step 1
To begin making the Green Moong Dal Khichdi Recipe, first wash and soak the rice and moong dal for about 1 to 2 hours
Step 2
Drain the water
Step 3
After the soaking period is over, we will now begin to cook the Khichdi
Step 4
You can cook the kichadi in the pressure cooker or in a saucepan
Step 5
Into the pressure cooker, add the soaked rice and moong dal, and the remaining ingredients into the pressure cooker
Step 6
Add 2-1/2 cups of water, cover the cooker, place the weight on and pressure cook until you hear 2 whistles
Step 7
After two whistles turn the heat to low and simmer for 3 minutes and turn off the heat

Allow the cooker to rest until pressure released naturally
Step 9
Once the pressure has released, open the cooker and you will notice the rice and dal has a mushy texture
Step 10
Stir well, adjust the salt to suit your taste
Step 11
To serve, spoon the Green Moong Dal Khichdi on to your plate, add a teaspoon of ghee on the top and serve hot along with Batata Nu Shaak (Potatoes in Gravy) or even a Kadhi Pakora making your weeknight dinners simple and healthy
